P20 steel alloy is low in Carbon content and it can vary in the range of 0.3 – 0.4%. However, 2738 is characterized by the presence of Chromium and Nickel elements that generate medium level hardness and this makes it a suitable contender as a tool steel also. Annealing and tempering processes are also performed to ensure desired hardness. Tempering is done at 482 – 593 degree centigrade and it delivers Rockwell C harness in the range 37 – 28. Annealing is performed at 760 – 788 degree centigrade followed by furnace cooling.
